What is Iyengar yoga?Iyengar yoga is a tradition of yoga developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, author of ‘Light on Yoga’ and other yoga texts. It emphasises the practice of asana (postures) with attention to detail and alignment that have a positive effect on body and mind. What are the benefits of yoga?Yoga develops strength, stamina, flexibility and posture. Regular practice not only increases your energy but also promotes emotional and mental well-being. What should I wear?Clothing should not restrict movement nor be too baggy. Footless leggings or shorts and a t-shirt are recommended. Yoga is practiced in bare feet. How do I start?Either sign up for a foundation course – an eight week course for complete beginners or come along to a beginners drop-in class. It is not necessary to do a foundation course before coming to beginners classes. You may wish to come to a drop-in class to get a taste of yoga. Do I need to bring a mat?No, all equipment is provided at the studio. How often should I attend a class?Come at least once a week. Some students come more often. Progress depends on regular attendence. How can I get there by public transport? The No. 50 bus from the city centre passes the end of Park Road about 50m from the studio. This is a frequent service so you won’t need to wait long for a bus. See ‘Directions’ for location details. Is there any car parking? There is plenty of space for cars on the street and limited off-road parking in front of the centre. |
